Lingerie Tutorial Part III - Panty Sizes
Well, now we get to the most difficult part. I'd say, "leave it to women to make something simple, difficult - like panty sizes" however, that would be bullshit because it was actually men who came up with panty sizes and the decision to divide them into standard women, juniors, juniors plus and plus size. There are differences to each type that I will try to explain as easily as possible. I will suggest that you completely avoid the juniors section unless you are diminutive as a man and that size is appropriate, but let's just say that you're not of the appropriate age or size (smallness) to wear such clothing. Women's clothing is further divided into petite and standard women's sizes, but for panties they use a numbering system that starts at size 5 and travels all the way to 14. Any panty below a 5 is for juniors. Any panty above size 14 (size 6 at Torrid or size 30/32 at Lane Bryant) is supersize plus size - these are very large women. There are few women wearing size 6 or 30/32 panties who are not morbidly obese. I accidentally purchased a pair of size 6 Torrid panties that were so large on me that in order to wear them I had to paperclip them after folding them and I'm a fat ass. I weigh between 320 and 330 lbs and I am 6 feet tall. I am built and this will come into play in the future when I discuss buying plus size clothing/lingerie for large men like myself. That said, I grew up crossdressing and my first pair of panties was a pair of size 5 panties that fit me perfectly at the time I stole them from a department store - they were worth $3.99 at the store but they meant the world to me. As stated, panty sizes are generally screwed up and it will take you some time to navigate the waters. Starting with wear to purchase, make sure that you're in the women's lingerie section. If you see Care Bears on the panties, you're in the juniors section and are probably freaking someone out. Before you go, do your homework. Most stores state their current inventory online so you shouldn't have trouble determining if a particular pair of panties that has caught your eye will be in stock. You will also know if they have them in the correct size. If you're nervous about spending time in the lingerie section either grow a set and get over your fears or choose the stuff you want online and either have it delivered or do pick up from a store like Kohl's or Walmart.
Converting your personal size to panty sizes is actually quite easy. If you have a size 28 waist, you're a size XS or a Size 5 in panties from most retailers. If you have a size 30-32 waist you're a size S-M and a size 6-7. If you have a waist size that exceeds 40 inches, you're going to find your panties starting at XXL and likely in the plus size section. If your waist is between 40 and 44 inches, you can wear size 3XL juniors plus panties before you must move to the standard plus size section. Plus size standard sizing is XXL through 4XL or numeric sizes 10 through 14. Store specific sizes are 18/20 through 30/32 at Lane Bryant (after closing Catherine's Plus Size stores Lane Bryant is now carrying panties to size 30/32 after previously topping out at 26/28) and size 3-6 at Torrid. Some other stores have their own specific sizing as well. In order to do conversions, use their size charts and try to find the corresponding waist size first. Depending upon the panty maker, you may need to go up or down in size to find the right size for you and keeping in mind having room for your male parts as well as recognizing that you don't have the corresponding hips. It may be possible for you to purchase a pair of panties that have a waist size that is smaller than you would normally wear, but because the hip sizes are at or above the size of your waist, you may be able to wear those panties. Again, this is on a maker-by-maker basis and using stretchy fabric helps to make the whole process easier - especially when you're first starting as you'll minimize your disappointment. Unless you have no expendable income, be prepared to donate some of your purchases to Goodwill or another charity that takes clothing that hasn't been worn because you're going to buy something that is either too small or way too big and you're going to need to part with it to make space for things that do fit. I don't return underclothing as making the purchase is enough of a thrill for me, I don't need the pressure of making a return. Also, unless the panties look perfect and never worn, some place won't take them back. Some places refuse to return any underclothing regardless of fit or lack of fit. Even women have to give away mistakes from time to time.
I highly encourage you to purchase your panties. Yes, borrow from family members or significant others if their stuff will fit you - but don't be a dick and stretch out something that doesn't fit. I have stretched out a lot of lingerie on a lot of women who likely wondered wtf happened to their panties that they're suddenly huge on them and the seams are stretched. You do what you have to do at the time - now I know better and I buy my own stuff. I didn't have that luxury when this fetish first started for me.
