Porn Labelling
My pet peeve within pornoland is the way many things are poorly labelled and viewed. When things are poorly labelled, it causes one to waste time clicking on things one isn't interested in. Miss-labelling can also contribute to misinformation about sex in general. Some examples:
- "Orgies", "Gangbangs", "Threesomes, "Foursomes". To me these are all quite different things, so care should be taken to label content accurately. An Orgy needs to have at least 5 people in it to count, otherwise it's a Threesome or a Foursome. Each of these themes has different dynamics, mood, and meaning for the viewer. For example, I love orgies with good balance of women and men, but I don't usually like gangbangs with a bunch of guys doing one woman. ("Reverse Gangbangs" are great, but what a goofy term.) It's especially annoying then when an Orgy gets mis-labelled as being a Gangbang, or vice-versa. Also, 3sums/4sums should be labelled for gender content, like FFM, MMF, FFMM etc. These labels really help the surfer make a quicker decision on what to click on, which is important when there are so many millions of items to search and wade through. One can always play it safe and use "Group Sex", but that is such a broad term it's not really very useful.
- "Lesbian", "Gay", "Bi". We all know that most so-called "lesbian" performers are not real lesbians. It's also true that most men who do "gay" or "bi" porn are neither of those things in real life. Your sexual identity is not determined by whatever kind of sex you happen to perform as a paid entertainer! Even viewers' sexuality cannot be labelled by what they choose to watch. Many of the guys who like "Bi" porn are not that way in real life and have no interest in even trying it for real. Lots of us enjoy things as fantasy, but choose to keep them as solely fantasy. For porn labels, I much prefer the terms "girl-girl" or "FF" over "lesbian"; and it would be nice to see "guy-guy" or "MM" instead of the inaccurate/misleading label "gay".
- "Inter-racial", "Black", "Asian", etc. Why is it that every kind of porn with people of different colours has to be labelled in a racial way? Why is this emphasis necessary? I think this is often quite demeaning to everybody, regardless of their race. Not to offend or annoy anybody, but think about this: If you're attracted to a performer mainly because their race differs from yours, that can be just as racist as avoiding them for it. Either way, it may reflect stereotypes and prejudices that should've been left to the last century. Of course there might well be some very legitimate use for such labelling. But this labelling can, for certain, also enable and perpetuate "race fetishizing", which goes hand-in-hand with racism. Just once I would love to see a scene between beautiful people of different colours, without mentioning their race. We can see it, must we really label it as such too? I notice that this site has no tagging option box called "white". Now why do you suppose that is? [This section was edited for clarity after I read some thoughtful posts below.]
- Famous/Legendary starlets. Titles should always include these, because many people do searches by a performers name. Just today I spotted a vintage clip featuring the incredible Desiree Cousteau, but there was no mention of her in the title. I felt sorry for all the Desiree fans who might have missed that one.
- "She-males", "Trannies" etc. I dunno, the terms don't seem very good but I can't come up with anything better. To me the successful M2Fs qualify as being women, they just happen to be different in one private area of their anatomy. Out of respect for them, I think they deserve to be called women, especially since most of them plan to get vaginas as soon as they can afford it and are only doing porn to pay for that final operation. The phrase "Woman-with-a-dick" seems best, but that's way too awkward of course. Any suggestions?
