Bad changes to Cams; reply to those defending them
There have been many changes to Live Cams in the last few years, almost all of them unpopular. However, two of the most recent changes have produced the biggest uproar, as seen on the Suggestions forum. Every user I know, and 99% of the cam models I know, hate the changes. However, I've heard a few models defend the changes for various reasons. I would like to rebut those reasons.
1. "It's good that the users can't see each other, because now other models can't hang out in my room and pick off my gold members." Really? Let's look at several reasons why that doesn't make sense. First, if a gold member tips or types, everyone sees who that is. Second, I've been spammed by models while in a chat room; usually with "cum c me bb" or some such similar semi-literate nonsense. And you know what? I will send them a message back telling them to stop spamming other models' users, and then block them. Most of my friends either do the same or ignore them. I don't know how many users are going to rush into a token whore's room because they got spammed. Third, if you don't like other models preying on your room, then block them if they're not a friend of yours. Fourth and finally, 95% of the users in your room are looking at the model list every few minutes, and if they see someone they like better they're going to go there, regardless of anything else.
2. "It's good that amateurs can't cam now because under-18 users won't be able to cam any more. That put the whole site at risk." Yeah, okay. First, I'd like to say that properly trained and constituted system mods, mods with the power to terminate cams and held accountable for what they do, would solve any problem we ever had with cams... but anyway, pro models are still toking weed, dozing on cam, leaving the cam unattended, playing videos, advertising for off-site shows, having critters touching them while naked, urinating, and more. Who's enforcing the rules? The use of substances and the presence of critters while nude can both get the site in trouble just as easily. I hate under-18 camming as much or more than anyone, and have taken a lot of heat for working vigorously to get them terminated when I've seen them; but then again I've only seen a handful of those here during the last few years I've been using Live Cams. So are the models really concerned about the site, and about protecting people who aren't old enough to be on cam, or are they happy to get rid of the competition from popular amateur cammers? I say, capitalism is about pride of product. If you want more paying users, give them something worth tipping for; don't try to kill off the better competition like you're Bill Gates.
The proof is in the pudding. I hear models complaining about how quiet their rooms are, and how traffic and tips are down. Now xHamster has dropped from the 48th most visited site in the world to the 56th. How's that ad revenue coming in guys? And by the way, the users are the customers. Many models are a little too wrapped up in themselves. If we're just talking about the business side of it--which has never been my focus, but since it is the topic at hand--the models are a product. The xHamster site is a marketplace where that product is sold and the users are the customers. A business should be customer-driven. And the customers are pissed; the best ones are leaving or have left. Be careful what you wish for.
