Spycam and editing software review
Blackdog’s setup:
Cameras:
3 x Muvi Veho 3 £30 or $40 on Amazon, very small (size of a thumb) and easily hidden, 480 resolution, not bad in poor light and has sound activation mode. About 2 hrs record time on rechargeable battery, requires an micro SD card for storage – 4G or higher, I use higher in case I don’t have time to download before next use, USB charge and connection to PC.

1 x Toshiba Camileo 1080 resolution – the best, but a bit bigger (approx. 3” x 1.5” x .5”) requires better hiding. I cover the silver parts and led with black insulating tape, set it to record (normally screen is visible when recording) put it back in the leather case and screen cannot be seen then, the lens still works through the tiny gap at the top though you need to put a bit of screwed up paper in the bottom of the case to make sure the lens protrudes enough – make sure you get the black versio and remove the white bit of material on the case, makes it easier to hide. About £50/$70 on ebay.

Luminox HD cam, same size as the Camileo, also 1080, similar results though the Toshiba is slightly better, similar price on ebay. Same routine though fits better in it’s case when videoing

Blackberry 9900, 720 resolution, great in good light, bad in poor light, I keep it in a leather case, you can’t see the screen on when videoing, a great standby for sudden opportunities, or easily hidden or just left “by mistake” in a strategic place, I often leave mine in a jeans pocket, either while still been worn or left discarded on the floor, chair – wherever I can get the view I want.

Also have to cams that look like USB sticks, motion activated, and two pen cameras (don’t be tempted by cheap Chinese ones, they don’t last). Have their uses, easily hidden, but poor definition, tend not to use them anymore, have also tried small HD sports cams (bullet etc.) expensive and don’t work in indoor light – I returned them
Hidding places:
As mentioned above – discarded clothes are great, also I use my washbag, it has a zipped bottom, I can place the camera in that, lens just through the gap – such as for this vid:

Besides that I am lucky that my wife doesn’t see well without her lenses, which normally come out before shower or bed, hence can hide the cams in curtains etc. Remember to hide any shiny bits or LEDs with black insulating tape.
I also get my wife used to me needing to send emails a lot – excuse to have to hold my blackberry at unusual occasions (like the swimsuit vid above)
Software
For taking stills from vid – I find VLC the best – and is free.
For editing, I use free windows moviemaker for initial videoing, does a good job for slicing etc.
For more detail or effects or face distortion, I use Adobe Premier elements 10
For “situations” I use Adobe Photoshop elements 10, both Adobe packages together cost about £100 ($150), if you haven’t seen my photoshop work – some here:

Stills normally are produced as large PNG files, I convert them to JPG using Total Image Converter, it was a few dollars and converts loads of different formats in bulk, quickly and cheaply, you can get it for free but worth paying a few bucks to remove the “converted with…” message.
I also have a cam (one of the Muvi’s well hidden behind a panel with a small hole for the lens) connected to an old PC that is permanently set up to record a particular bathroom used by many, the PC is running iSpy (free), when the light goes on in the bathroom it automatically records, have got some very interesting footage that way.
