Reduce downvoting

I proposed this to xHamster.

As some people seem to like to downvote entire galleries. Could there be put a limit to the number of dislikes a user can make in comparison to the number of likes?

GEEEEEEEZUZ people really are we so unhinged that we can't handle a little thumbs down . Is this all about our little bubble of realty people live in . This is like watching Americas Got Talent or some singing realty show and we see people get pissed off because they don't get the Golden Ticket of excellence to move on to Hollywood or watching identity protesters yell and scream of not being treated equally. God almighty are we that fragile and our confidence is destroyed because someone gives you a thumbs down ......really????? Maybe a thumbs down will up your game or just except that not everyone is going to feel you deserve a "LIKE". toughen up people this is the real world and not everybody will give you a thumbs up infact maybe you should ask why you get so many dislikes. I'm just saying

Great idea! No reason to spread negativity, I go out of my way to up vote a pic if I think it has been down voted just because some people can't think with an open mind.

I would be happy to see end of the dislike button internet wide. it is a bitter cowards button... any right thinking person who dislikes something would surely just move on to another video

I think that the down voters fall into several categories: JEALOUS: and at the same time want to make a site look bad and/or increase their own ratings in the top 50 spots by down voting other material. MALICIOUS: Just pure downright nastiness QUUERS: Obviously do not like Hetero stuff, so why look at it in the first place. I do not go round down voting anything for its content - each to their own. I agree with Spike that something should be done about it. But I would suggest that you do away with the Down vote altogether: Then you have the option of a vote or not. Alternately (and a bit more complicated for the techy guys) allow a scale of say 1-5 that you can vote on. Regards Tim and the girls

Totally agree with Dagworth here. If you don't like it then you, don't watch, don't look and move along. One person's kink is another person's vanilla. Diversity makes the world go around, after all.

I don't really see why there even needs to be a downvote button. There should be a button for "like" and a button for "offensive". The number of likes should be displayed. The number of times the "offensive" button is pressed doesn't need to be seen by anyone except the site admins so that they can remove the pic if it is really offensive or against the rules. A dislike button really doesn't make sense because people have such diverse sexual tastes. The fact that a bunch of people don't like something doesn't imply that it is a bad contribution to the site.

I've never downvoted anything on xHamster, if I don't like a gallery, or a video I move on.

The topic is important, and I support basically all of the views below. However, I have no expectations of Tthings actually happening. That would require the xHamsters to invest resources, which is bloody unlikely. Still, you got my votes for this, spikeforce. We can only hope...

The number of people here who think they now are on Siskel & Ebert is stunning. Only upvote for things that turn me on. Never down vote, as different folks like different strokes. All these critics need to go get lives....

This is the most sensible discussion I've read. Who are these pathetic morons who dislike so much? I agree with most of the below. I would love to know which country, by proportion, gives the most thumbs down. If I watch more than 5 minutes of a clip, I give it an up. If I watch 10 minutes, I will probably comment. In most cases, if I watch it all, I will save in my faves for anyone who has missed it. This community is(or should be)about sharing and caring. I have nothing to upload but feel I contribute with my likes and comments. Thanks for all your work, spikeforce. Ian.

I agree completely! Certainly I'm prejudiced in favor of your idea, being an uploader :) But I also believe that what you're suggesting is objectively important. Expressing one's liking for a clip or pic encourages uploading... that is, helps xHam to be what it is... a vibrant, interactive world community (of wankers LOL). Negative comments and downvotes do nothing positive :) As Owner2266 says below, "If you don't like it leave it alone." V

I've been around in one form or another since the internet got going in the mid 90's and have been posting bdsm/spanking type pictures and then as time went by bdsm video as well once the net was fast enough to accept it. On here I have 12 or maybe 13 'friends', in reality I occasionally exchange messages with two of them. My content is actually my personal content, i.e I have made it so I keep 99% of my content password protected. This is because: * People want to share but have nothing to share * The internet is full of wannabe free loaders... wankers in all forms of the word * I know just how rare well made personal content is and I have no need to share As for 'down voting' if one took the average IQ of the idiots on here you'd be lucky to hit room temperature. They don't seem to be able to grasp "If you don't like it leave it alone" or actually and I think far more importantly "Who gives a fuck what you think?" For all the myriad of wonders the internet has brought it has also brought the social cancer of genuine in-bred morons thinking they have an opinion that counts, when commenting on issues they have zero knowledge of. All I can say is that if they have nothing better to do in their life than wander around down voting content, one can only hope they pass away very soon of something really painful.

Another issue is, down voting, because of a dislike of the subject. Some target BDSM, gay, interracial, or anal for their wrath, because it offends their sense of morality. (Morality? On a porn site?), or they're simply bigoted racists. If I don't care for something, I don't watch, I don't log in to post a down vote on something I'm not into. Putting it simply folks. GROW UP!!!

Many of us have been trying to get them to restore the old star system, which was harder to exploit. The current system defaults to a no vote, many who were not 100% in favor of a vid, would vote a few stars. Many don't like the simple up or down vote on a vid they are not 100% in favor of, so they don't vote at all. Causing the imbalance, which favors negative voters. Unless I don't like a vid, I always leave an up vote, if I really don't like it, I vote down by not voting at all.

to jppy : Fact is that sometimes galleries which are online for weeks with almost 100% likes suddenly are downvoted within an hour or so. This can only be done by morons who do this only to bully. That is what I would like to be stopped. Thanks for your support anyway.
