High Heel Basics
If you are femme, then you definitely will want to prance around in some high heels. High heels basically come in 2”, 3”, 4” and even higher heels. Anything over 4” and you will find it likely very difficult to walk in. Plus, if you are 5’ 10” tall, like I am, then wearing a 4” heel will make you over 6 foot tall. A 2” heel is great for walking around in. However most persons desire a girl to have as high a heel as they can handle. So my recommendation is that you set your goal at a 4” heel.
Having a basic pair of black (usually patent leather in color) pumps is definitely my big suggestion everyone have in their repertoire. From there you can add red, brown or other types. But a pair of black high heeled pumps seems to always be classic, sexy and goes with almost everything including most importantly, your sexy lingerie!
You’ll note then that besides a lot of color, there are smooth leather finishes and also patent leather finishes. Patent leather is the super shiny look. It is so shiny you can almost see your reflection on the surface of the shoe. Regular leathers have a flat look to them. Choose the heel that will look best with your outfit, whether your outfit is an exterior outfit (e.g. skirt, pant suit, dress, etc.), or the look you want to achieve in the bedroom with your lingerie.
Myself personally, I like high heels that come with straps around the ankles, as these then do not fall off. I also am a bondage fetishist so it plays into this as well, e.g. "oh no, I can't shake my shoes off while my hands are tied to my waist". However do have an assortment of the kind without straps.
And then there are open toe (so you and others can see your toe nails…. Better paint them up!), and closed toe. I have a smattering of both. You can also have a closed heel (most are like that) or an open heel that are referred to as "mules".
Boots are certainly fun, and they are usually the easiest to walk around in. There are side zippered kind (super easy to get in and out of) and lace up kind (not so easy). Some offer a combination of both.
Now where to buy!? Well it depends upon the use…. If you need something extremely sexy and just want to lounge around in bed, then any cheap and relatively uncomfortable pair will do. These are usually in the $30 range.
Usually the size you need is ONE OR TWO SIZES larger then what your male size would be. So for example I am a size 10. So I need a size 11. Drats! As if I needed a size 9 or 10 for example, there would be oodles and oodles of more shoes for me to choose from. If I needed a woman’s size 10 or smaller then I would be like Imelda Marcos (the former Queen of the Philippines) and own hundreds if not thousands of pairs!
So what if you want to go walking and dancing in them!? Then my best recommendation is to invest in a good pair! These might run you $100 or so ($50 when they're 50% off and you can most certainly find these kinds of deals on the weekend at Macy's). By investing in a quality pair, they will be sturdy and have padding on the footbed and be fairly comfortable. Usually to get good pairs you will go to a nice upstairs department store like a Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s or something like this. For those gals reading this blog that are a size 12 for example, there is usually some of the classics stocked in this size. Best thing is to simply ask the clerk if she could point out what styles she has available in anything you might need that is larger than a size 10. I have found some really nice high heeled shoes in a size 11 at a Macy’s for example. And have them and wear them to this day as they work and feel great when going out on the town.
If you are a woman’s size 10 or smaller, then you are lucky enough that I recommend you go out and buy yourself a lottery ticket!
While I have not purchased at Zappos this seems to be a great alternative way to go. I personally like to see physically what I am going to buy, have instant satisfaction (with my purchase then and there versus having to wait for the mail to arrive), and generally just like shopping like all us girls do seeking out deals or something unique.
I hope there was some information of use and happy shoe hunting! XOXO Little Miss Christi
