My favorite TV shows of all time

In no particular order...except for the first -

Mary Tyler Moore show

Dick Van Dyke show - especially any episode that had Carl Reiner (as Alan Brady) as a guest

Humans - fascinating show about artificial intelligence - can't wait for the next season to begin

Orphan Black - not a great show but Tatiana Maslany gave a pile of performances for the ages

Twin Peaks - just the original and just the first season

Star Trek - groundbreaking

Star Trek: The Next Generation - especially any episode with John de Lancie (as Q) as a guest

Lost - well, at least the first few seasons - also groundbreaking

Hot in Cleveland - Betty White is God but Wendie Malick is not far behind

St. Elsewhere - despite the worst final episode of all time

ER - groundbreaking - especially in the early years

Bob Newhart Show - the one with Suzanne Pleshette as Emily, his wife

Moonlighting - Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd were magic

Cybill - Cybill Shepherd and Christine Baranski were magic

Miami Vice - groundbreaking

Twilight Zone - really grounbreaking

My Mother, The Car - OK just k**ding

China Beach - I not only fell in love with both Dana Delaney and Marg Helgenberger, but this show was consistently gripping

Mission Impossible - this list will self destruct in 10 seconds

Just Shoot Me - another great vehicle for Wendie Malick; I can't stand David Spade!

Laugh-in - nothing like it before or since

Carol Burnette Show - Tim Conway is the funniest man who ever lived

Homicide: Life on the Streets

Monty Python's Flying Circus - This parrot is dead!!

Taxi - Louis Dipalma and Iggy were comedy gold - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QsFDpTEl84

Cheers - at least during the Shelley Long years

Downton Abbey - high-end soap opera but I was hooked

CSI - the original was, you guessed it, groundbreaking

24 - the first few seasons were tension filled and didn't seem to have much "filler"

Better Off Ted - no one watched this but is was a great workplace comedy

Nip/Tuck - sexiest soap opera ever

Hill Street Blues

NYPD Blue - perhaps the least attractive leading man ever

Pushing Daisies - a unique concept done really well

Wonder Years - quietly charming

Mad About You - with a pathetic, furry, thud!

WKRP in Cincinnati - "Now it's time for more music...and less Nessman"

Barney Miller - "Wojciehowicz - spelled just the way it sounds" - thanks for the reminder, Montevideo

Night Court - I actually once sold a pair of headphones to John Larroquette - he was very nice. And Markie Post had great boobs!

The West Wing - I wish Jed Bartlett was our president! - now (2020) more than ever!!!

Chernobyl - terrifying and gripping.....and terrifying

The Good Place - a unique show with a wonderful cast - Janet rules!

to talonequ : I agree with you that, although Newhart II wasn't as good as Newhart I, its series finale was one of the greatest of all time. Interestingly enough, Newhart's real-life wife, Ginny, is credited with coming with the idea for the finale.

to montevideo : I never got into Seinfield - watched it a couple of times and found it truly a show about nothing. I did think about All in the Family and, if I were listing "Best" rather than "Favorite" shows, it would have been on that list. But Archie was just too irritating. Speaking of irritating, David Hyde Pierce gives David Spade a run for the money. The only thing I really liked about Frasier was Jane Leeves and I liked her better in Hot in Cleveland. I can see Mork and Mindy being on the list - Robin Williams was awesome - but it never quite became one of my favorites and I'm not sure I ever watched ALF or 70's show. Finally, Dorothy was a Friends fan but I never became one - although I really enjoyed Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe (and Ursula on Mad About You). Yes, funnier than those others you name. Speaking of Newhart, if you've never heard the Grace L Ferguson routine, check it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2L2XjhcK0M And, regarding Newhart II, I don't think it was as good as Newhart I but it did have one of the great series finales ever. Finally, I just added both Barney Miller and Night Coourt to the list.

watched a mediocre film recently with Max Gail (not easily recognizable) in the credits: reminded me of another comedy fave - Barney Miller. Superb ensemble cast, well-written. "Wojiejowicz - spelled just the way it sounds"

true- too long! All is well; spring has arrived and budding has begun (along with the consarned pollen!) For starters I just considered comedies: From your list- MTM and Laugh-in would be my tops with Cheers, Taxi, Newhart 1, WKRP and DVDyke in close pursuit.. To which I would mention - 1. Seinfeld - easily in my top 5 2. All in the Family - will be hard to portray another character like Archie Bunker 3. Frasier - if for no other reason, brother Niles 4. Friends - many good moments 5-7. ALF, Mork and That 70's Show - corny they may have been, but still lots of fun. All I can think of right now, there may be others. p.s. I am probably in the minority (tho it's hard for me to believe, lol), but I always found Tim Conway to be the un-funniest comics of all time (unless mugging is valued highly). Funnier than Jonathan Winters, Newhart, Don Rickles, Rodney Dangerfield, to name a few??? Like I said, i've heard lots of others who say love Tim, but I never got his schtick

to montevideo : Hey, Monte - long time, no speak. I hope you're well and have managed to get through another Carolina winter. Ours has mostly been rather mild - could be in the 60s today. Pretty good for February. I'll look forward to hearing your comments on this list and to any suggestions you might have Be well.
