Why I Watermark All My Shit...
"Wait, is that one of my motherfucking videos??"
Not only did this guy have the balls to crop and repost my videos, he did it with videos that I have actively posted and available on my profile - wtf?
I remember when I first found out about xHamster 'lo so many years ago - one of the things that immediately caught my attention was how...clean all the videos were... No bullshit website URLs trying to drum up traffic - almost all the videos were watermark-free and looked like they were all home made...
"Nice. I'm gonna post here", I thought to myself.
Of course the downside with posting videos and pictures to the Internet is that once they're out in the wild... And it didn't take long for trolls to download my videos and repost them as though they were the ones fucking chunky, slutty chicks...
So I started putting a watermark at the bottom of my videos (no one seems to steal photos), trying to discourage the practice...
Then a few thieves cropped the video and reposted anyway...
So I added rotating watermarking all along all four sides of the video - thinking that no one would bother cropping that - it cuts too much of the video off - but of course, there's always someone desperate to boost their cool points...
So my next step will be to add watermarking smack dab in the middle of the video - at a few key points - to further discourage these guys...of course, I have to find a balance - I don't want the videos to become unwatchable; what would be the point of sharing them?
You might wonder : why does this guy care so much about people not reposting his videos?
Answer : Because they're truly mine. These aren't videos or pictures that I downloaded from some Internet site that I'm now "sharing" with others - this is content from my own private collection that I'm choosing to share. Big difference.
The nature of technology is that I can't stop people from downloading my content and let them watch the damn things too...you just can't have it both ways. But maybe - just maybe - I can make it too much of a bother for the desperate to copy my shit...just enough so that they'll go on to some other profile...
