Sky News tonight. Residents said it was carnage, the rain biblical. And today the body of a woman was pulled from floodwaters in Derbyshire after she was swept away by the torrent.
Severe flood warnings remain in place, meaning there is still a threat to life after parts of northern England got a month's rain in just one day.
The Environment Agency has repeated warnings for people to stay away from swollen rivers. Several rail and road routes remain impassable.
And tonight emergency services are still helping residents to safety. Sky's North of England correspondent, Joanna Matot, has more.
It's been a day of rain and rescue with little respite.
